1. WIRELOCK® has a proven and reliable history spanning over 50 years.
WIRELOCK® is the original easy-to-use cold socketing compound manufactured in the UK by its founders Millfield Enterprises (Manufacturing) Ltd, and has a history that can be traced back to its use in UK coal mines in 1963.
2. WIRELOCK® has never required reformulation since its introduction in 1963.
Used in five different industrial sectors, WIRELOCK’s safety and reliability have remained consistent.
3. WIRELOCK® is guaranteed quality.
Manufactured with ISO9001 2015 accreditation, WIRELOCK® quality never changes. WIRELOCK® meets the requirements of ISO 17558 and DNV-OS-E304 and has Type Approval from ABS, DNV and LLOYDS.
4. WIRELOCK® is packaged to ensure a quality product with every pour.
WIRELOCK® is securely packaged in easy to use recyclable cans. Styrene, a key component of any polyester resin system, is one of the world’s ‘great escape artists’ and we have found that only two things contain it – glass and cans. Glass is subject to breakage so we use cans to ensure the product life is maintained for as long as possible.
We have researched the option of plastic/metal laminated bags for the last 15 years but none of these are resistant to Styrene (when you open any container containing a polyester resin kit packaged in bags, the Styrene smell is noticeable). It is very important to ensure that the Styrene does not escape as this will cause the resin to thicken and age. As a result, WIRELOCK® is packaged in cans which have a shelf life of 18 months when stored correctly in a cool dry place.
WIRELOCK’s cans are 100% recyclable. Even tins containing unwanted cured product can be recycled by simply removing the inert residue from the tin. The tin can then be recycled and the remaining inert product disposed of correctly.
Tin packaging also offers on-site versatility. Kits up to 500cc can be mixed in the original packaging and if a pouring lip is required this can be easily created using pliers - see the training aid film on www.wirelock.com. For larger kit sizes we recommend the use of clean, reusable containers made of metal, polyethylene or polypropylene. Recognising the increasing global impact of plastic waste on the environment, WIRELOCK® does not supply plastic buckets or plastic-lined funnels.
5. WIRELOCK® offers a range of kit sizes with varying viscosities to ensure the best results for large and small projects:
-
The 100cc and 250cc kits have a lower viscosity than the larger kits as they are designed to be used with small sockets and 'hairy' ropes.
-
From 500cc to 8000cc, all have the same viscosity.
-
Kits above 8000cc are called High Volume WIRELOCK® (automatically supplied). High Volume kits are more viscous and are formulated to withstand the high temperatures reached during the cure of these larger kits, greatly reducing the risk of heat stress cracking in the cone.
6. WIRELOCK® is easy to mix.
Each kit comes with only two components. Add all the resin to the entire granulated compound provided and mix vigorously for two (2) minutes. A distinct color change to green/blue indicates it is ready to pour. Note: The liquid should always be poured over the granulated compound to minimize airborne dust/dust. Please note that dusting is non-toxic. The peroxide used in WIRELOCK® is the same chemical used to bleach flour to make white bread and in acne and hemorrhoid creams. Inhalation of any dust/dust should always be avoided in any environment and therefore WIRELOCK® users should wear a dust mask/fume filter during the mixing process of the WIRELOCK® socketing system.
7. WIRELOCK® provides fast and reliable results.
The wire rope can be put into service one (1) hour after the material in the socket has gelled and a successful scratch test has been completed. Where possible, the assembly should be trial loaded.
8. WIRELOCK® offers unrivalled technical experience.
At WIRELOCK® we know resins and curing systems but in addition we know all aspects of ropes and rope terminations, so our Technical Service is second to none and comes as part of WIRELOCK’s customer service.
